Fallen Monarchs || William Bliss Baker

Fallen Monarchs, William Bliss Baker (1859-1886)

William Bliss Baker died at the age of 27 from a back injury while ice skating at his father's house. He's a well known artist in New York and has this painting hanging at the BYU museum of art. A truly fascinating painting of, not just monarchs, but nature in general. Makes me want to travel, trek, and mountain hike again. The ambience it gives, the imagery, isn't just visual for me, and maybe most nature loving people. I can also smell the atmosphere, the wind and chill of the event happening in the painting. Nothing happens, although the setting is just remarkably calming.
